INFOWARROOM: THE BOX EN DE RELATIE TUSSEN ‘KELDERBOXSEX’

Al sinds Elvis en The Beatles worden steeds dezelfde beelden gebruikt om popmuziek aan de man te brengen. De politieke en maatschappelijke ophef die regelmatig ontstaat over het vermeend toenemende seksisme en geweld in videoclips voegt zich in een cultuur waarin seksualiteit en geweld over de gehele linie steeds zichtbaarder worden. Afbeeldingen van geobjectiveerde vrouwelijkheid en sociale of etnische agressie nemen niet toe in aantal of heftigheid, maar eisen meer aandacht voor zichzelf op omdat andere beelden en symbolen wegvallen. Het gaat dan ook niet om de seks en het geweld an sich, maar om de morele waardering daarvan. De hedendaagse hedonistische videoclip kan dan gezien worden als een commentaar op wegvallende ethische kaders (politieke, institutionele, publieke kaders) en op de braakliggende symbolische orde in hedendaagse westerse beeldculturen. INFOWARROOM biedt mediakritiek en beeldanalyse van de dominante beeldcultuur, Temidden van een overdaad aan beelden wordt duiding gezocht bij de culturele en sociale betekenis van het beeld. During 35 minutes, advertising agency Habbekrats will show you their biggest successes and greatest failures. It's a journey shot on a variety of formats, from VHS all the way up to 35mm, and it will take you to the beautiful beaches of Thailand as well as to the most popular bar in Venlo, the dirtiest south-side gutter you'll find in The Netherlands.

9.Dec.2006 16h De Balie Lezing door Leenke Ripmeester (NL) & Heide Peeters (België) over de videoclip cultuur waarbij Ripmeester en Peeters dieper ingaan op de videoclip in relatie tot de popcultuur. Wat is het belang en de impact van muziekvideoclips ten tijde van voortgaande globalisering? Peeters stelt dat videoclips typische artefacten zijn van het postmodernisme, en Ripmeester gaat nader in op de sociale receptie van muziekvideo’s en de zogenaamde ‘morele paniek’ die rondom videoclips hangt.

9.Dec.2006 16h De Balie In this lecture, we will, with the help of recent and popular music videos, explore the language of the medium and dissect its functioning in the creation of a star. Upon investigation, music videos, far from being hyperkinetic visualizations of a song, turn out to be tight constructions, featuring the star as narrator, character and ultimately as the central instigator of a video-universe that is utopian in nature and poetic in structure.
